The Moon is the Earth's only natural satellite. The distance to the Moon from the Earth is about 384.403 km, 9.6 times the Earth's circumference. The Moon always keeps the same side towards the Earth and orbits it approximately once a month. In fact the word "month" is derived from the word "moon".
The Moon often lights up the night and could therefore be called the ‘sun of the night’.
