We are pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition The Beauty and Economy of the Turf House at the site of Íslenski bærinn/Turf House, Austur-Meðalholt in Flóahreppur. The inaugural exhibition marks the public opening of an institution that has been in the making for many years.

Íslenski baerinn/Turf House is an exhibition site, a cultural and informational center, a meeting place and a playground concerned with the Icelandic turf house heritage and green design. Guests will visit the genius loci of the site and view exhibitions that display the context, development and variations of the Icelandic turf houses. The Islenski baerinn/Turf House institute encourages exploration of the building practices, origin, cultural context and contemporary significance of the turf house. We hope that guests will experience the subtlety and beauty of the house that kept Icelanders alive and nurtured their culture through the centuries. www.islenskibaerinn.is

An open house with light refreshments will be held between 14:00 and 17:00, Saturday, August 30th, 2014.
