The purpose of the Recycle Map App is to inform the general public about recycling and to provide a thorough overview of the recycling centers for each waste category. There is no longer any excuse for not recycling your waste.

The fact is that what used to be defined as waste or garbage, is today considered to be raw materials or resources for a different production. Waste and garbage are nothing but resources gone astray. Almost everything can be re-used or recycled. The key is to sort the waste correctly for it to be possible. Bad sorting can make it impossible to recycle waste in later stages.

By recycling, the need for landfills decreases, which decreases the risk of soil contamination. Landfilling is also expensive for the community, and therefore, expensive for everyone of us.

The best option is to avoid purchasing “garbage“. We may sometimes buy wrappings  that simply end up in the garbage bin when we arrive home. The main recycling categories are defined by each municipality individually, but they all use the Fenúr labeling.

By using the Recycle Map you get detailed information on all recycling categories, both the Fenúr-labels (green icons) and side categories (black-white icons). The black-white icons are developed by Nature.is to help you find information on other things that can or cannot be recycled or reused in Iceland today.

The Recycle Map app for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded for free at the App Store.
