Recreation is a term that grown-ups use when they talk about play or fun. Often grown-ups think that they have to entertain the kids all the time, so they won’t get bored. Children get used to constant fun and entertainment and never learn to deal with boredom. If a child is always being helped to have fun they get used to others helping them all the time. The only thing that a kid can consider boring is to find nothing to do and its OK if the child is bored now and then.

One of the things that are done in order to amuse kids is to allow them to watch TV or movies almost endlessly. But everything should have a limit. A child that watches too much television or is always playing computer games becomes inactive.  In fact pre-school children should not watch television because it can stunt their growth and affect the development of their social skills. Best is to find some kind of middle way so that the child can also interact socially. While they should be allowed to watch children’s programmes and films within limits, children should not be allowed free and unlimited access.

Playing outdoors and enough exercise is what children need most of all for healthy growth and development. Send the kid out with a bicycle, a kite or into the playground. That is much more fun anyway.
