Waterfront & Beach
Beaches and coastlines where it is possible to roam and enjoy variable flora and fauna. White and reddish sand beaches made mostly from shell fragments, are found on the western coast of the Westfjords peninsula and in Snæfellsnes. Other coastlines in Iceland are made from black basaltic sands.

The Blue Flag
The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and other services. The Icelandic Environment Association (Landvernd) manages the program in Iceland as part of the International Blue Flag Program that is owned and run by the independent non-profit organization, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
